Everything starts with them - preamps. Every audio engineer's task is dependent on the quality of the preamps, which direct the subsequent stages of the mix and have an impact on the overall sound quality. Yamaha MG mixers feature discrete Class-A "D-PRE" microphone preamps, which employ inverted Darlington circuitry. These are studio-grade preamps, also found in high-end professional Yamaha mixers, providing even more power with low impedance levels and meeting the expectations of the most demanding sound engineers. By delivering fat and natural bass, rich midrange, as well as smooth and clear highs with very low distortion, the D-PRE preamps ensure uninterrupted operation across an extremely wide frequency range, allowing handling of signals from virtually any sound source. Thanks to the high-quality preamps used in all MG models, there is no need for extensive sound correction or the addition of additional effects processors that artificially "enhance" the mix.

D-PRE (Discrete Class-A Microphone Preamps)

The main amplifier (power amp) determines the final sound quality, while the integrated operational amplifier (op-amp) circuits influence the entire main amplifier circuit. MG mixers feature new, high-quality, custom-made MG01 operational amplifiers, which were created in collaboration with a leading semiconductor manufacturer. For the design of many operational amplifiers, the focus is on the electronic circuitry as well as their performance. However, we decided to work with a semiconductor manufacturer, prioritizing sound quality above all else. The MG01 amplifiers feature redesigned circuits that use improved internal components, including high-quality silicon wafers and copper wires, which allowed us to achieve excellent, high-resolution sound reproduction.

High-Quality Operational Amplifier (Op-Amp)

Signal compression plays a significant role at every stage of recording or sound processing. Compression is used to level out the dynamic range of audio signals such as loud guitars, powerful basses, heavily hit snares, or pristine vocals. However, it is important to remember that achieving perfectly balanced mix sound can take many hours and requires a great deal of experience. Our one-knob compressors, which provide instant access to optimal compression settings with just one potentiometer, were an innovative idea introduced by Yamaha years ago and have since become the standard in the music market.

One-Knob Compressors

All MG models feature high-quality Neutrik™ XLR connectors for the mono microphone/line channels and stereo channels equipped with XLR. Each mono input has a combo jack, supporting both MIC and LINE signals. The two stereo inputs have XLR connectors and two jack and XLR connectors, supporting both MIC signals, as well as two jack connectors supporting LINE signals, which can be used in both mono and stereo applications (except for the 10-channel model). The functions of the remaining two stereo channels vary depending on the model:

Variety of Inputs/Outputs

In the 20-channel model, XLR connectors support MIC signals, while two RC connectors support LINE signals, which can be used in both mono and stereo. In the 16 and 12-channel models, two jack connectors support LINE signals in stereo. Additionally, each stereo channel has a 2TR input (RCA connectors) and can serve as an independent input for external audio sources, such as CD players. The 10-channel model has two additional stereo channels and a pair of jack connectors supporting LINE signals. In all XU models, any audio source sending signals via USB can be assigned to one of the stereo channels. In addition to the main stereo outputs (XLR L/R, TRS jack L/R), MG mixers feature a wide range of output connectors, including GROUP OUT (TRS jack), AUX/FX OUT (TRS jack), MONITOR OUT (TRS jack L/R), and HEADPHONE OUT (stereo jack), allowing for the selection of main outputs tailored to specific uses - monitoring or mastering.
